Fireworks was originally conceived as an overture for the Sarasota Orchestra’s Iconic Songs of the 70s concert, which featured my orchestrations of popular music from that decade. When I was asked to create music for the fireworks finale, the exact concept was still being developed, but the idea of a large-scale orchestral celebration immediately suggested another opportunity: to create the kind of cinematic overture that has inspired audiences for generations.

At the same time, I was completing a film-scoring project for the Film Scoring Academy of Europe, and this piece became an exploration of that same musical world: a bold orchestral opening title built around heroism, drama, and excitement.

The challenge was to create a strong, memorable theme that could carry the weight of a traditional cinematic overture. The music follows an ABA design, beginning with a brilliant, energetic statement that emphasizes the power of the full orchestra, especially the brass section. A contrasting middle section expands the emotional palette before the opening material returns with renewed intensity and a triumphant conclusion.

The result is a musical universe built around motion and spectacle: bold themes, powerful orchestral colors, and a sense of anticipation that continually pushes forward. Like the best cinematic opening titles, the goal was not simply to accompany an image, but to create the feeling that an adventure has already begun.
