The brief for this assignment was to use violin, cello, and piano as “characters” and follow the contours of the actors and emotional states of the scene.
I chose this scene from “the 100” because I love the first five seasons of that show, and it was a nice clean scene available without music. The timing was also perfect for the assignment.
The A minor with major 7th tonality came immediately, then the minor 2nds as part of the main theme and to signify the needle. Abby and Clark’s theme are almost the same since they are mother/daughter, and the only major tonality occurs when they touch but as more of a passing accident from the melodic motion.
All of this analysis is more complex than the music itself. It’s simple and linear and hopefully supports the scene and dialog effectively. I hope you think so.
