I have been developing a professional relationship with The Chopin Project and founder Fred Slutsky. This great project has a strong interest in connecting students with classical music so they provide sponsor-paid tickets to students. I am able to offer these tickets to all music students as well as any music appreciation students in my classes. I have also offered the tickets to the other teachers of Music Appreciation. This year we had 20 students attended the various concerts, and hopefully that number will increase in the future.
I also attended the Saturday evening performance at the UUCS church in Sarasota, which was a truly outstanding performance by Matthew Graybil of a wide range of styles and repertoire. The highlight of the evening was his performance of Stravinsky’s arrangement of “Three movements from Petrouchka”, originally arranged for Arthur Rubinstein. I have never heard this piece attempted before and Mr. Graybill performed the piece flawlessly.
